e-Stamping
e-Stamping in India
Understand e-Stamping, fulfilment modes, State variations, enterprise workflows and the separation between stamping and document execution.
e-Stamping is a method of fulfilling stamp-duty requirements through an authorised electronic or supported procurement process. The applicable method, duty, document classification and availability depend on the relevant State or Union Territory and the transaction.
What e-Stamping Means
Stamp duty is governed at the State or Union Territory level. The operational route can therefore differ even when two businesses are stamping the same broad category of agreement. In one location, a certificate may be generated digitally. In another, an e-Stamp certificate may require physical procurement. A further location may use its own authorised mechanism or traditional physical non-judicial stamp paper.

What Businesses Must Verify
- The correct State or Union Territory.
- The document or stamp article.
- The transaction or consideration value where relevant.
- The duty amount and statutory charges.
- Party names and other certificate particulars.
- Whether registration, notarisation or another legal step is separately required.
- Whether the physical certificate must be retained or delivered.
Stamping Is Not Signing
A stamp or e-Stamp certificate addresses the stamping process. It does not, by itself, mean that the underlying document has been executed. Electronic signing, wet-ink signing, witnessing, notarisation, registration and other formalities must be assessed separately for the document and transaction.
RazorSign e-Stamping
RazorSign enables enterprises to initiate and manage stamp-duty fulfilment inside the document and contract workflow. Depending on the mechanism available for the relevant State or Union Territory, fulfilment may be digital, eStamp-Physical, traditional physical or State-specific physical. Signing and stamping remain separate processes, while transaction status, available records and the final executed document can remain connected to the contract workflow.
